Model Baron BA-TPS Series

Function

The Baron BA-TPS-150 is a complete system for the processing and filling of new and refilled high-power tubes such as those for X-ray and CAT scan machines.

Available functions include:

• High-vacuum degasification, dehydration and filtration of dielectric fluid for oil-filled tubes
• Total acid number reduction of the oil with use of an optional fuller's earth filter
• Vacuum storage of processed fluid to prevent recontamination through exposure to air
• Vacuum pull-down and leak-up testing of the tube
• High-vacuum evacuation of the tube prior to filling
• Flush or trickle-fill of the tube with processed dielectric fluid
• Optional attachments for bellows setting
• Optional attachments to add auxiliary heat on tubes and/or energize circulation/stator devices

Maintaining oil quality and processing tubes with a Baron system helps increase oil life, improves equipment performance, reduces downtime and lengthens tube field life.

Description

The Baron BA-TPS series are compact, quiet systems that are typically installed in a cabinet as shown in the photograph. The only interfaces required to run the unit are electrical power and an oil hose from the oil source as well as hose interfaces to and from the tube(s) to be processed.

The unit is designed for simple and convenient operation through a touch screen operator interface terminal (OIT). A single button on the OIT starts and stops the system. Built-in safety devices monitor system operation and automatically stop the unit if operating conditions become abnormal. This allows operation with minimum operator involvement. If a totally automated system is selected, all functions, including evacuation, leak-up testing and filling of the tubes, are available from push buttons on the touch screen terminal.

Standard Components

• Heavy-duty, positive-displacement, direct-driven oil pump
• Quick-opening filter housing that accepts industry standard 6" x 18" filter cartridges. The housing comes equipped with a 0.5 micron nominal filter element. Fuller's earth filters are also available. The filter housing is equipped with an automatic air release valve, drain valve and differential pressure gauge and switch. The initial filter element is pre-installed.
• Oil-lubricated high-vacuum pump
• Vacuum chamber for spreading of the oil into a thin film and exposure to vacuum. The Baron chamber is specially designed with a dual-dispersion system consisting of inert elements followed by a dispersing tray. The unit is equipped with automatic level control and backup safety switches to stop the system in the event of incorrect operating levels. Large viewing windows allow visual observation of the process. Excess sump capacity doubles as vacuum storage for processed oil prior to tube fill.
• Low watt-density oil heating system
• Inlet and outlet isolation valves
• Flow sight indicator(s)
• Processed oil sampling valve
• NEMA 12 central control panel with graphic flow diagram, programmable logic controller, touch screen operator interface terminal, controls and indicators

• Totally automated design that allows the keying in of desired process parameters on the touch screen and system alerts of completed processes
• Dedicated vacuum pump for tube evacuation
• Adapters to interface between the tube and the required hose fittings

• Auxiliary low-level switch to warn when supply drum or tank is low

Electrical System

Baron BA-TPS systems come equipped with a NEMA 12 central control box with the following features:

• Touch screen operator interface terminal
• Preprogrammed logic controller which controls all automatic functions of the system
• Electronic vacuum gauge
• Motor starters with instantaneous-trip short circuit and thermal overload protection
• Hour meter to log system operation and maintenance as a function of operating time
• Graphic flow diagram with lights to provide at-a-glance indication of component operation
